The upper Garhwal Himalayan town of Kedarnath’s portals, which had been closed for over six months during the winter, will reopen on April 25.

On April 25, at 6.20 a.m., the Himalayan temple’s gates will be opened to visitors, according to sources with the Badrinath-Kedarnath Mandir Samiti.

At a ceremony held on Saturday in honour of the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, the timing and date for the reopening of the temple gates were revealed.

Attendees at the ceremony included representatives from the BKTC, the district government, and the tirth purohits.

Every year, once Kedarnath closes, the Shiva idol is transported to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, where it is worshipped in the winter.

Now set to open on April 27 and April 22, respectively, are Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

Every year, between October and November, Kedarnath and the other Char Dham temples are closed because of the bitter weather.
