22 Industries Have Received Closure Notices In Order To Maintain A Pollution-Free Environment Ahead

The Odisha State pollution control board (OSPCB) has asked 22 sponge iron manufacturers in Rourkela to close their units for a month in order to ensure a pollution-free environment in the steel metropolis and surrounding areas ahead of the Men’s Hockey World Cup.

The pollution control agency has issued a warning to the factories, requesting that they cease their operations from January 1 to January 31.

Despite repeated claims of pollution caused by industry, the administration has stayed silent. Pollution has harmed the city’s water sources, flora, and homes.

Prafulla Samantray, a well-known social activist, has spoken out against industrial air pollution. During his recent visit to steel city, the chief secretary was also briefed on the issues.

Notably, the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 will start on January 13, 2023. Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium will host a number of matches. A large crowd is also expected in the steel city.

The OSPCB has ordered that all factories cease operations until the World Cup is over.
