Payments to foreign retailers can be initiated using their native QR codes. Users can make UPI payments in foreign currency from Indian banks, just like they can with international debit cards.

To use the UPI international capability, PhonePe customers must first authorise their UPI-linked account at the merchant location or before to their journey. To activate the services on their separate smartphones, they must enter their UPI pin.

The payment is done through Indian banks, and the beneficiary receives funds in their native currency. The UPI payments abroad programme lowers the use of plastic cards while travelling overseas.

According to PhonePe, the new feature is accessible through the app, which is available for both Android and iOS cellphones. It may take some time for the current rollout to reach your device.

The following countries allow Indians to make UPI payments via Phonepe:

  • UAE
  • Singapore
  • Nepal
  • Bhutan
  • Mauritius
