A 23-year-old who sent 600 cold emails and made 80 phone calls was hired by the World Bank. Vatsal Nahata was in this scenario in 2020, just before receiving his Yale University diploma, but the start of the Covid-19 outbreak and uncertainty surrounding Donald Trump’s immigration policy prevented US corporations from taking a chance on hiring him. He has provided an intriguing account of how he eventually managed to secure a position with the World Bank on LinkedIn.

“I didn’t currently have a job, and I had two months till graduation. I was also a Yale student “In a recent post, Nahata, who was 23 at the time, wrote.
However, Nahata, who attended Yale after earning his degree from Delhi’s Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), was adamant that he would not return to India right away and that his first salary would be paid in dollars.
So he made a big effort with networking. He made a total of 80 or so cold calls, 600 cold emails, and over 1,500 connection requests to various people over the course of the following two months in an effort to find work.
He claimed he experienced the most number of rejections he had ever experienced. “I had to get thick skin to survive. And I had no progress.” Nahata penned.
But eventually, all of his effort and persistence paid off.
“By the first week of May, I had received 4 job offers, and I decided to work for the World Bank. After I completed my OPT and my manager granted me co-authorship on a study on machine learning with the World Bank’s current Director of Research (unusual for a 23-year-old), they agreed to sponsor my visa “He composed.
Three years after that event, Nahata had the idea to write about his experience to inspire others to never give up.
