Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, made job cuts public last month. At the time, Pichai made it plain that the United States will see layoffs before moving on to other regions. Currently, it is proven that the internet giant is executing layoffs in India based on various LinkedIn posts made by Google employees. Here are a few facts about Google layoffs in India that you should be aware of.

Details about Almost 400 Google employees in India are being fired by CEO Sundar Pichai over an email

Numerous Google employees (through LinkedIn) speculated that the corporation issued an email to impacted employees last night. According to estimates, more than 400 employees in India have been given the pink slip.

There is yet no word on the severance package that impacted Google India employees would get. Google announced in the United States that it will pay employees during the full notification period (minimum 60 days), offer a severance package starting at 16 weeks’ salary plus two weeks for every additional year at Google, accelerate at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting, pay 2022 bonuses and remaining vacation time, and provide 6 months of healthcare, job placement services, and immigration support. It is expected that the corporation will offer a comparable severance compensation and benefits in India. Importantly, neither Google nor any of the employees have given any information about severance packages for Indian employees.

When the layoffs were first announced, Pichai confirmed that only employees who received the lowest performance ratings were affected. Employees, on the other hand, believed the opposite and said that layoffs were random. The Google CEO then stressed that layoffs were not done at random.

Pichai accepted full responsibility for the layoffs, blaming them on macroeconomic factors. He further claimed that during the pandemic, the corporation overhired. “We’ve experienced times of rapid development during the last two years. We hired for a different economic reality than the one we confront now to match and fuel that growth “Pichai stated in an email to Google employees last month.

Nevertheless, numerous Google India employees have resorted to LinkedIn to express their dissatisfaction with the way the layoffs were handled. Many people reported that the corporation sent the layoff notice to affected employees last night. According to other stories, the Google CEO took full responsibility for the layoffs in the same email.
