Apple is the first company to export phones from India valued $1 billion in a month

According to a report by The Economic Times (ET), Apple, the maker of the iPhone, has become the first business to export cellphones worth $1 billion (Rs 8,100 crore) from India in a single month. Over Rs 10,000 crore worth of mobile phone shipments from India were recorded in December.

A brief about Apple is the first company to export phones from India valued $1 billion in a month:

The two biggest mobile exporters historically have been Apple and Samsung, with Samsung dominating. Apple, though, surpassed Samsung to become India’s top exporter in November. In India, it presently produces the iPhones 12, 13, 14, and 14+.

Three independent manufacturers, Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron, produce these phones. The report also stated that several other modest exporters export iPhones.

Both Foxconn and Pegatron have manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu. The facility for Wistron is in Karnataka. These individuals are a part of the Center’s production-linked incentive (PLI) programme.

Government representatives told ET that if Samsung’s production plant had been operating at full capacity, the overall exports would have been greater. For routine maintenance, it was shut down for roughly 15 days in December.

The accomplishment is viewed as the PLI scheme’s success.

“The guiding light of the government’s innovative PLI programmes is mobile exports. Input tariffs must be reduced, beginning with the 2019 Union Budget, in order to maintain the competitiveness and growth of India’s smartphone exports. We are encouraging the government to create such programmes for components, hearables, and wearables as well “, India Cellular’s chairman and Electronics Association (ICEA), Pankaj Mohindroo told ET.

Data from the commerce ministry shows that from April to December 2022, exports of electronics products totaled $16.67 billion, up 51.56% from $10.99 billion the year before.
