Chinese man completes 42-kilometer marathon in less than 4 hours

A 42-kilometer marathon was finished in three hours and 28 minutes by a Chinese national who smoked continuously the entire time. Out of more than 1,500 contestants, he came in 574th place. The Independent stated that the marathon took place close to Shanghai on November 6.

Details about Chinese man completes 42-kilometer marathon in less than 4 hours while chain smoking:

Guangzhou resident Uncle Chen gained notoriety after pictures of him slogging through a pack of smokes while competing in the marathon were extensively circulated on the Chinese social media site Weibo.

This wasn’t the first marathon Chen has finished in his “signature style.” Chen smoked his way through the 2018 Guangzhou Marathon and the 2019 Xiamen Marathon, as per the report.

But the cigarette-smoking athlete, according to the Hong Kong Standard, only smokes when he runs.

According to Chinese media sources, he has acquired the moniker “smoking brother” due to his propensity for competing in long races while holding a cigarette in the corner of his mouth.

But some argued that exposure to secondhand smoke could harm his fellow competitors, while others questioned whether smoking while running a marathon would be considered a doping violation.
