Netflix prohibits password sharing and advises customers to limit account access to family members

The way Netflix operates for many of us is that one person pays the bills while other people utilize the service. This has been the situation for a very long time. Maybe ever since Indians started to favor the streaming powerhouse. But Netflix is now making efforts to put a stop to this behavior. Users are now being informed by the OTT platform through email that their account is exclusively for them and members of their household. Additionally, they must transfer their profile to a new account (for which they will have to pay) & think about changing their password if anyone else using their account is not a member of their family.

The move by Netflix is unavoidably abrupt and sudden, but not unexpected. There have been rumors circulating for a while that Netflix will soon stop allowing customers to share passwords and implement steps to do so.

In a recent blog post, the streaming behemoth stated, “We will be sending this email to users who are sharing Netflix outside of their Indian household starting today. A single household may use one Netflix account. Every member of that household has access to Netflix from anywhere, whether they are at home, traveling, or on vacation. They can also benefit from new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.

“We acknowledge that our members have a wide range of entertainment options. There is always something enjoyable to watch on Netflix, regardless of your taste, mood, or language, and that is why we continue to invest extensively in a wide selection of new movies and TV episodes.

People receive emails informing them that their Netflix account is exclusively for them and members of their household. Additionally, anyone using Netflix who is not a member of your family should transfer their profile and change their password.

By checking the security and privacy settings of their account and choosing the ‘Manage access and devices’ option, users must first verify who is currently logged into their account.

Following that, users must reset their passwords and sign out of any devices to which they “should not have access.” The profile can be transferred if someone from their home uses Netflix.
