Maharashtra government joins with Berkshire Hathaway for developing a 1000-acre smart city near the Navi Mumbai airport

Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, signed an MoU with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Orenda India to create a 1,000-acre smart city close to the Navi Mumbai airport while in Davos for the five-day World Economic Forum 2023. In the Raigad district, near to the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the collaboration aims to create a social and physical infrastructure for a smart city that spans 1,000 acres.

“As part of this arrangement, the firm will help establish a full ecosystem for industrial, commercial, and residential development,” the company said in a formal statement. “The government will offer access to property and support in getting various permits and licences.”

It goes on to say that the partnership, a joint venture between the state government and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), will make it easier to develop industrial clusters, warehousing and distribution hubs, entertainment hubs, data centres, and information technology parks for IT/ITES/BPO/KPO services.

The business will also create a knowledge management system that will help organise promotional roadshows and conferences, exchange best operational practises, and provide information on industry trends.

The company will be in charge of making use of its network and luring business service delegations to contribute to this endeavour.
