On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation during the 108th episode of “Mann ki Baat,” claiming that the corridor connecting India with the Middle East and Europe will serve as the foundation for global trade for centuries to come and that India will be remembered for having conceived of it.

The establishment of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor was unanimously agreed upon by PM Modi, US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, and EU President Ursula von der Leyen at the G20 Summit in Delhi (IMEC).

With the geopolitical and economic significance it implies, the IMEC will be a route in the historical sense of the word, enabling transportation links to hasten the integration of Asia, the Arabian Gulf, and Europe as a new centre of global power.

Modi mentioned the “Silk road,” an old trade route that India used when it was a powerful and successful trading nation, when discussing the new corridor. He also claimed that India had just proposed the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor at the G20 Summit.
