The year 2022 demonstrates that the sky’s the limit for hypercars. While the most costly luxury automobiles may share some elements with their less expensive counterparts—four wheels, doors, and a steering wheel, for example — they distinguish themselves with those very flamboyant, incomparably amazing aspects that blur the line between a car and a piece of art.
When it comes to high-end hypercars and supercars, a few names should come to mind: Bugatti, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Rimac, and Pagani, to name a few. These producers have established themselves as the leaders in the supercar and hypercar market, offering to their most affluent customers the world’s fastest, rarest, most beautiful, and in this instance, most costly automobiles.
However, in order to determine which of these out-of-reach automobiles is the most expensive, we studied the invoice sheets and discovered 40 cars all worth $1 million or more. The collection consists of two one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce automobiles designed for royalty, two hybrid Ferrari convertibles, an American speed demon, a few electric Hypercars, and an American speed king.
However, becoming the “most expensive automobile in the world” is no simple task. As you go through our list of the most stunning finalists for 2022, you’ll notice that sometimes even the flashiest designs, customized bodies, super-powered engines, and more can’t take the top place.

1963 Ferrari 250 GTO
The Ferrari 250 GTO is a GT vehicle built by Ferrari between 1962 and 1964 for Group 3 Grand Touring Car homologation. It was propelled by a Tipo 168/62 Colombo V12 engine made by Ferrari. With a top speed of 174 mph and a 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 6.1 seconds, its performance was inferior to that of today’s hypercars. It is the costliest car in the world.
Since then, this model has grown in popularity among car collectors, and sales have frequently shattered price records. In June 2018, 1963 250 GTO (chassis 4153GT) which now holds the record for the most expensive Ferrari was sold in a private transaction for $70 million.
Ferrari won the Tour de France Automobile in 1964 with the 250 GTO, making it nine years in a row that they have done so. These automobiles were only produced in 36 units between 1962 and 1963.

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic
The most luxurious car in the world is probably a Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic known as “La Voiture Noire.” It was difficult to make a passenger vehicle with this material, which was mostly used by car manufacturers to build aircraft. However, Bugatti decided to put the design into production with an aluminium body in the middle of the 1930s, giving rise to the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupe. A 3.3-litre inline-eight supercharged engine with about 200 horsepower is found under the Bugatti hood.
Only three of the original four are still in existence. A 1936 variant of the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic was most recently sold in California in 2010 for $30 million at an auction.
In the 1930s and 1940s, more than 700 Bugatti Type 57s were produced. Only four of them, though, were Type 57S Atlantics. Today, fashion icon Ralph Lauren owns one of the three remaining models. The creator refers to it as “moving art,” and it is tar-black with wave-like lines.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail
Another world’s luxurious car is Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. A midsize, luxurious coachbuilt grand tourer, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is produced by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. With a price tag of US$28 million, it is the most expensive street-legal new car ever. This magnificent creation, which was meticulously handcrafted by skilled Coachbuild artisans, is a tribute to the owner’s father, whose beginnings in the pearling business evolved into a family.
A Coachbuild motor car is created in true partnership, from the first concept to the final touches. The lengthy and emotional process necessitates years of coordinated contact; it is patronage in the most authentic sense of the word today. This one is particularly impressive because it combines components from the original 1932 Boat Tail with those from a J-Class yacht. In late 2021, at Italy’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail made its public debut and displayed its 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine’s 563 horsepower.

Bugatti La Voiture Noire
“La Voiture Noire” is a celebration of BUGATTI’s past, a statement of the brand’s style, and a work of high-end automotive fashion. Bugatti comes under the list of the expensive car brand.
The unique Bugatti La Voiture Noire costs $13.4 million. Officially, La Voiture Noire is the most costly new Bugatti ever produced. And that makes sense. The La Voiture Noire, a contemporary rendition of Jean Bugatti’s own Type 57 SC Atlantic, is powered by the same 1,479 horsepower, 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 engine as the Chiron.
It can go from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 2.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 260 mph (420 km/h).

Another highest costly car in the world is Pagani Zonda. Pagani started Pagani Automobili Modena in 1992. The Zonda wasn’t ready for seven whole years.
Italian sports car maker Pagani created and produced the Pagani Zonda R as a track day vehicle. In 1994, Mercedes-Benz and Pagani reached an agreement over an engine partnership, under which every Pagani would use a German-built V12; the business was moving quickly toward production. Additionally, the first Pagani supercar to reach completion debuted to the public in 1999.
The 6.0-liter GT 112 engine gave the Zonda C12 its world premiere at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. It became popular right away because it was a supercar unlike any other supercar ever. Although Pagani has only released two models (the Zonda and the Huayra) to yet, it has continuously modified and enhanced the fundamental design of its models.

One of the top 10 cars in the world is Rolls-Royce Sweptail. Based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, the Sweptail took four years to hand-build. The car, which drew inspiration from coachbuilding from the 1920s and 1930s, was ordered in 2013 by a super-yacht and aircraft specialist.
This car’s mix of the old and the new—modern luxury with a dash of flair from the 1920s and 1930s—is one of its best features. The Sweptail is priced like a yacht because it has a glass roof that stretches from front to back and wood and leather on almost every interior surface.
In 2019, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, which sold for US$18.7 million, surpassed it as the most expensive new car.

Bugatti Centodieci is another most costly car in the world. The mid-engine sports automobile known as the Bugatti Centodieci (Italian for “110”) is a limited edition model made by the French automaker Bugatti.
The Centodieci has an 8,000 cc quad-turbocharged W16 engine with a 1,176 kW (1,600 PS; 1,578 horsepower) @ 7,000 rpm rating and weighs 20 kg less than the Bugatti Chiron. Although the Bugatti Centodieci is the fastest accelerating Bugatti currently on the road, it may not be the fastest. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (or little more than 0 to 100 km/h) in 2.4 seconds.
Although the Centodieci’s top speed is 379 km/h, or 236 mph, less than the Chiron’s, this hypercar makes up for it with a unique contemporary appearance.

A unique, high-performance sports car designed by Stola and DaimlerChrysler is called the Maybach Exelero. Berlin’s Tempodrom hosted its unveiling in 2005.
The Exelero was constructed by Mercedes using the same twin-turbo V12 engine as the Maybach, which produces 690 horsepower (510 kilowatts) and 752 pound-feet (1,020 Newton-meters) of torque. The maximum speed is 218 miles per hour (350 kilometres per hour). There are 3 valves per cylinder, and the compression ratio is 9.2:1. At 5000 rpm, the engine generates 700 PS (690 horsepower; 515 kW), and at 2500 rpm, it produces 752 ftlb (1,020 Nm) of torque.  A 5G-Tronic automatic transmission is connected to it.
The Mercedes-Maybach Exelero accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 351 km/h (218 mph).

The Bugatti Divo is a mid-engine sports car with a track-focused design that Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. created and produced. The car bears the name of French racing driver Albert Divo, who twice won the Targa Florio while competing for Bugatti in the 1920s.
The eight-litre quad-turbo W16 engine that powers the Bugatti Chiron and the Divo both produce a remarkable 1500PS of peak power and are paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Divo is capable of 380 kmph, whereas its predecessors, the Veyron and the Chiron, reached top speeds of more than 400 kmph.
The Bugatti Divo, on the other hand, is designed to perform better on the racetrack. It has already established its credentials by outpacing the Chiron by eight seconds on the Italian Nardo handling circuit.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport
The Bugatti Chiron is a two-seater mid-engine sports car that was created in Germany by Bugatti Engineering GmbH and is made in Molsheim, France, by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.
The Chiron Sport, a version of the Chiron designed specifically for the racetrack, was introduced by Bugatti at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Chiron’s engine produces 1,118.55 kW (1,500 horsepower; 1,521 PS) of maximum power at 6,700 rpm and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of maximum torque between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm. The Chiron’s highest speed is electronically limited to 420 km/h, and the manufacturer claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 2.4 seconds (261 mph).

The mid-engine hybrid sports car Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 is made by the Italian automaker Lamborghini. The Lamborghini Sian, which was initially revealed online on September 3, 2019, is the company’s first hybrid production car.
With every colour imaginable to cover its carbon fibre exterior and interiors, the Sian was created to be the most individualised Lamborghini ever produced. Additionally, it effortlessly accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in less than 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 217 mph.
The Lamborghini Sian features a mild hybrid system powered by a 6.5-litre SVJ-sourced V12 engine. The 819 horsepower (611 kilowatts) of system output makes it the most potent Lamborghini ever made.

Mid-engine sports cars are created by Italian sports car maker Pagani under the name Pagani Huayra (pronunciation in Italian). On January 25, 2011, a press release with various images of the Pagani Huayra had its official web debut.
In the centre of the vehicle is a twin-turbo V-12. This engine, which comes from Mercedes-AMG, produces 791 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels receive power from a seven-speed single-clutch automatic transmission. The Huayra can reach a top speed of roughly 383 km/h (238 mph), and it accelerates from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 2.8 seconds. The Pagani Huayra can accelerate laterally at 1.66 g when fitted with Pirelli tyres.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have not given the 2020 Pagani Huayra an overall crash-test grade (IIHS).
