One year after the Wordle craze, Heardle, an online music game, will be discontinued by Spotify

Less than a year after being purchased by music streaming juggernaut Spotify, Heardle, the name-that-tune game inspired by the Wordle mania, is closing down.

Details about one year after the Wordle craze, Heardle, an online music game, will be discontinued by Spotify

Heardle announced on its webpage, “Thanks for playing Heardle, but unfortunately we must say goodbye.””Heardle won’t be accessible after May 5th.”

Heardle is a game that plays brief clips of a song and tests participants to see how quickly they can identify it. It first debuted in February 2022 amid a wave of Wordle-based games that were using that format after the New York Times purchased it in January of that year.

Users could switch from playing the song on the app to disclosing it after Spotify acquired Heardle in July. According to the blog post announcing the acquisition, Spotify’s goal in purchasing the game from its developers was to facilitate this kind of music discovery, or rediscovery.

However, the firm did add that “the difficult decision to say goodbye” was made after careful thought and that it planned to “focus our efforts on other features for music discovery.” The company did not provide further information on why it was stopping the game.
