Out of the entire value of Rs 3.56 lakh crore in circulation as of May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revealed that Rs 9,760 crore worth of banknotes in the Rs 2000 denomination have not been deposited or exchanged.

As a result, as of May 19, 2023, 97.26% of the Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation had been returned or swapped.

It is important to remember that even with the withdrawal plan, Rs 2,000 bills are still valid forms of payment.
