The thieves allegedly constructed a tunnel to the yard and began removing pieces, eventually disposing of the complete engine that had been brought there for repairs.

“A theft of a diesel engine delivered to the Garhara yard for repairs was reported to the Barauni police station. Three people were arrested during the investigation “PS Dubey, an inspector with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Muzaffarpur, said as much.

Searches were done in a scrap godown in the Prabhat Nagar region of Muzaffarpur district based on information provided by them during interrogation, he added, and 13 sacks full of train parts were discovered.

“He stated that the proprietor of the scrap yard is being sought. According to him, recovered goods include engine pieces, wheels from historic railway engines, and railroad parts made of strong iron. They had constructed a tunnel to the railroad yard and utilized it to transport locomotive components and other stuff in sacks “Dubey stated.

According to him, the gang is also involved in unbolting steel bridges and taking their parts. A railway engineer at Samastipur Loco Diesel Shed was suspended last year after he allegedly sold an obsolete steam engine stored on the Purnea Court grounds.

In collusion with other railway officials and security personnel, the engineer allegedly utilized a falsified letter from the divisional mechanical engineer of Samastipur to sell the engine.
