TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew interned at none other than Facebook in the summer of 2009, one of his platform’s main competitors today.

Chew is the founder of the short video sharing app, whose popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, leaving Facebook and Instagram scurrying to catch up.

TikTok became the most downloaded app in 2022 during his rule, with 672 million downloads, according to consumer data firm Statista. Because of its popularity, Facebook has shifted its focus to short video content.

Chew, interestingly, has a history with Facebook. While attending Harvard Business School, he had a summer internship with the organisation.

Chew was mentioned on the alumni page as saying, “I was working for a startup that summer.” “It was known as Facebook.”

Chew, who was born in Singapore, began his career as a partner at Hong Kong-based DST Investment Management, one of the world’s largest investment firms, after graduating from Harvard.

After five years at DST, he relocated to China to become the director and international president of consumer electronics giant Xiaomi.
