With the Keep in Chat function, WhatsApp users may now keep messages that are about to disappear

The service for instant messaging WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, has added a new function for its users. The Keep in Chat function lets users save vanishing messages so they can save text they might need in the future. However, it is up to the sender to decide whether or not a recipient can keep a disappearing message.

In-depth details about with the Keep in Chat function, WhatsApp users may now keep messages that are about to disappear

Just like in-person chats, conversations using Disappearing Messages don’t have to last forever. Even while this added layer of privacy prevents communications from getting into the wrong hands, occasionally you might want to save a voice note or important piece of information, according to a blog post by WhatsApp.

“Today we’re introducing “Keep in Chat,” so you can hang on to texts you need for later, with a special superpower for the sender,” the message read.

According to WhatsApp, the sender will be informed if a message is retained as part of the Keep in Chat feature. The choice of the receiver will thereafter be subject to his or her veto.

The sender’s decision is definitive if they determine that the message cannot be maintained by others. The message will then be removed when the timer expires and no one else will be able to keep it. By doing this, the sender will ultimately decide how their messages are safeguarded.

One can view them in the Kept messages folder, arranged by chat if the sender permits the recipient to save a fading message. WhatsApp will mark messages that have been saved with a bookmark icon.

Despite the fact that the functionality needs the sender’s consent to save the message, it might not be frequently used. Why would the sender send a disappearing message in the first place if there is no problem with the message being kept? Having said that, having such a category is a good idea.
