According to Apple, iPhone batteries should retain up to 80% of their initial capacity after 500 complete charging cycles. These early reports, however, imply that users are already experiencing severe degradation before it gets to that point. With a 10–18% larger battery than current models, the future iPhone 15 series is believed to fix this problem.
In the iOS 11.3 update, Apple added a battery health monitor for iPhones, coinciding with the contentious performance throttling issues of “batterygate.” The function was designed to reduce performance problems brought on by aging batteries, but the consequences led to significant settlements.
