You might soon be able to share original quality images on WhatsApp

If code seen in the most recent beta of the Android app is anything to go by, WhatsApp users may soon be able to transmit photographs in their original resolution without worrying about image compression. A new feature that would let users send pictures in their original quality is described by WABetaInfo.

A brief about You might soon be able to share original quality images on WhatsApp

Although WhatsApp already offers users the options of “automatic,” “best quality,” and “data saver,” sending photographs in their original dimensions and resolutions is not yet supported. Instead, even when choosing “highest quality,” these photographs are reduced to allow faster data transfers and need less storage.

The new functionality is present in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.11, although WABetaInfo reports that it is still in development and not yet accessible to beta testers. The feature was identified by WABetaInfo as a new “Photo quality” choice under the drawing tool header.

There is no indication of whether this new function will also apply to movies sent on the platform, in contrast to the upgrade that previously gave WhatsApp users the ability to alter the quality settings. By modifying the file’s extension to send it as a document rather than an image or video, users can still find a workaround to prevent WhatsApp from compressing their content.

The uncompressed image functionality is not yet scheduled for release.
