PM Narendra Modi and UK PM Rishi Sunak first announced the programme during the G20 Conference in Bali in 2022. On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, voting began.

Indians between the ages of 18 and 30 would be permitted to reside and work in the United Kingdom for a maximum of two years under this plan. British nationals will also be permitted to reside and work in India for a period of two years.

According to official information provided by the British High Commission, Indian nationals between the ages of 18 and 30 and those with bachelor’s degrees or higher will be eligible to apply for this work visa programme.

The first ballot will be available starting on February 28 and will end on March 2 of 2023. Additionally, the High Commission said that the first ballot will be open to everyone.

Candidates whose votes are counted must apply for their visas within 30 days after the results. They would have to depart for the UK within six months of having their work visa application accepted.

“A visa will be issued to you so you can stay and work in the UK for up to 24 months. While your visa is still valid, you are free to visit the UK whenever you like and can depart and return whenever you like “lists the shared qualifying requirements.

Candidates that try and fail to get on the ballot can try again in the future. The second vote will probably take place in July 2023. In order to boost the economies of both India and the UK, the UK committed to forging closer relations in the Indo-Pacific region by launching the India-UK Young Professionals Initiative.
