Additionally, it has been claimed that residents of villages in the districts of Chitradurga, Kalaburagi, and Koppal have stopped paying their energy bills. People claim they are exempt from paying their bills since Congress promised to provide them with free electricity if it took office.

This happened when electricity department representatives visited the villages to do metre readings. A woman in Chitradurga refused to pay the bill when one of the metre readers presented it to her, claiming that the people are entitled to the pre-poll promises from the moment they voted for Congress in the most recent Assembly election.

“Let DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah pay our bills. After the elections, they promised to put the guarantee of 200 free units into effect. So stay away from here. The bill will not be paid. We were entitled to these promises after we clicked the voting button, the woman added, referring to Siddaramaiah, the Congress’s nominee for chief minister, and DK Shivakumar, the leader of the state party unit.

The current bill won’t be paid, we say. We will always receive the 200 free electricity units that were promised to us. Even if the CM is not there yet,” added a another Koppal resident.
