For the second time in a row, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the world’s most popular leader. According to the findings of a US-based global leader approval tracker dubbed ‘Morning Consult,’ PM Narendra Modi is the “most apt” leader for the position, with approval ratings of 78% of India’s adult population.

The research organisation polled 22 leaders, with PM Narendra Modi topping the list with a 78% approval rating, followed by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with a 68% approval rating and Swiss President Alain Berset with a 62% approval rating.

According to the survey, only 18% of Indians disagree that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the world’s most popular leader.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden both scored 40% approval ratings. They were ranked seventh and ninth, respectively, while UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was ranked thirteenth with a 30% approval rating.

PM Narendra Modi’s approval rating peaked on May 2, 2020, at 84%, and peaked again on May 7, 2021, at 63%, when India was dealing with the peak of the second wave of Covid-19.

Approval ratings are calculated using a seven-day moving average of adult citizens in each country, with sample sizes varied by country. Morning Consult’s newest approval ratings were taken between January 26th and 31st of this year.

Morning Consult conducts over 20,000 daily online interviews throughout the world. The sample in India represents the literate population.

These surveys are based on age, gender, and region in each country, with education breakdowns in some. These data are derived from official government sources.
