Son of a Kargil War martyr rejects two offers from IIM to enrol at the Indian Military Academy

The son of Lance Naik Krishnaji Samreet, who died in the Kargil War in 1999, Prajwal Samrit has decided to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, following in the footsteps of his father. Prajwal bravely decided to follow his father’s goal and join the army despite having offers from IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode.

Prajwal, a resident of Pulgaon Tehsil in the Wardha district of Maharashtra, lives there with his mother Sarita and older brother Kunal, who recently earned his MTech and now works in Pune. Since he was in school, Prajwal has excelled intellectually, earning a stunning 97.51 percentile on the CAT exam for the MBA.

He was accepted into top IIMs but felt obligated to join the Indian Army in order to pursue a career.

Prajwal earned his BSc in Electronics from Fergusson College in Pune, and he passed the SSB exam as well as the medical test needed to join the Indian Army.

He will begin an 18-month training programme at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun the first week of July after being accepted. After finishing, he would join the Indian Army as a lieutenant and serve the nation.

Prajwal revealed in an interview with Aaj Tak that his mother had always wished that one of her boys would enlist in the military and that he was born 45 days after his father was killed in battle.

Prajwal has given his entire family a great deal of pleasure and happiness by realising his late father’s desire.
