Few people appeared to recognise Murty while she made pongala, according to a report by Deccan Herald. The Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Malayalam actress Chippy Renjith, who met her at the Pongala festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, published pictures of her on social media.
“Among the devotees was author Sudha Murty. As he took a selfie with her, Tharoor added, “Here she is with me, DGP Sandhya, and the sacred flame Attukal Pongala.
While sitting on a sofa, Chippy Renjith and Murty were captured on camera. “We don’t come across wonderful people who have achieved success in many areas of life every day. At the Attukal Pongala Festival in 2023 (sic), Padma Bhushan Smt Sudha Murthy, an Indian educator, novelist, philanthropist, and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, was introduced to the actress.
Yet the image of Murty—the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, the wife of NR Narayana Murthy, and the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak—that went viral showed her cooking pongala in the blazing sun while heat and smoke rose from the hearth.
Murty reportedly made his first appearance during the Attukal Pongala event.
The image of Murty was posted on LinkedIn by Anil Sardana, MD & CEO of Adani Transmissions, who said, “This is expression of ideals which don’t forsake a noble soul, whatever be the achieved stature! She serves as an example for present and coming generations of how ingrained values trump titles and wealth! She and all other similar idols who inspire us have my naman!
“Padma Bhushan Mrs. Sudha Murthy,” said Raj Kamal Bindal by sharing a photo, an independent director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). The colossal Indian IT company Infosys Technologies Ltd was co-founded by her husband and British Prime Minister is her son in law. She is dedicated to upholding Indian culture.
Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards were given to Sudha Murty in 2023 and 2006, respectively. She is renowned for her charitable activities, social service, and educational initiatives. “Devoted social worker and philanthropist working for the betterment of society – also an accomplished and widely popular author,” the description for Murty said.
