When Sony teased its Vision S concept car at CES 2020, industry experts all had the same reaction: Neat, now what? At CES 2023, the Japanese manufacturer answered that question by revealing the Afeela, an EV developed in collaboration with Honda and set to hit American roads in 2026.

Details about The Sony car is a real Sensor-studded Afeela EV set to hit American roads in 2026

The sedan closely resembles Sony’s slippery Vision-S concept, which was shown off three years ago. And, like that prototype, it’s all about the sensors – Sony promises it will have 45 sensors, ranging from lidar to radar to in-car cameras. A stripe-like strip in the grille flashes different colors, allowing the car to “express itself” – a prevalent concept throughout Sony’s CES 2023 presentation.

Inside, a large screen dominates the front dash, and Sony promises to leverage its ties in movies, music, and gaming extensively. The computer power will be provided by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

According to Sony, preorders for the Afeela will begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the first deliveries in North America following in 2026.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to update details as they become available.
