Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a US chipmaker, announced on Friday that it would invest roughly $400 million over the following five years in Bengaluru to construct its largest design center. The development was verified by AMD’s Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster during the annual semiconductor conference, which got underway on July 28 in Gujarat.

In-depth details on for its largest design center, AMD, located in the US, would invest $400 million in Bengaluru and create 3000 engineering jobs there

By the end of the year, AMD said it will open the design center in Bengaluru, and within five years, it would add 3,000 new engineering positions. According to Papermaster, “Our India teams will continue to play a key role in delivering the high-performance and adaptable solutions that support AMD customers worldwide.”

The brand-new site, measuring 500,000 square feet, will represent AMD’s most recent expansion in India. It will bring the company’s total number of offices throughout the nation to ten. In India, AMD already has over 6,500 workers.

Papermaster added that AMD would strengthen its local R&D capacities. From home PCs to data centers, a variety of devices use the company’s processors. Additionally, it is developing a microprocessor with artificial intelligence.

The other speakers included Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, and Foxconn Chairman Young Liu in addition to Papermaster. An $825 million investment for a Gujarat-based semiconductor testing and packaging operation had previously been disclosed by Micron.

The goal of “SemiconIndia 2023,” an initiative of the India Semiconductor Mission in collaboration with business and industry organisations, is to establish India as a major center for the design, production, and advancement of semiconductor technology.

On Friday at 10:30 am, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the celebration its official start.
