The Indian Railways has fined an IRCTC contractor Rs 1 lakh for charging Rs 5 in addition to the declared price of Rs 15 for a water bottle.

When a customer traveling from Chandigarh to Shahjahanpur was asked to pay Rs 20 for a bottle of water, the entire episode came to light. After being charged excessively, the passenger posted a video on Twitter detailing the entire incident.

The railways took note of the situation and launched an investigation. Chandramauli Mishra was given a show-cause notice by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Mandeep Singh, Divisional Railway Manager of Ambala, stated that the contractor has been fined Rs 1 lakh.

Every vendor and contractor associated with Indian Railways has a set list price. Anyone charging more than the maximum would result in the railways canceling the contract or incurring a fine. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
